SS22 MACRO TREND
REBIRTH
OVERVIEW:

REBIRTH
PATTERN CURATOR NOTES:
There is a shared sentiment that the world is ready for a restart, a reboot and a rebirth. For Spring 22, we are starting to see a shift towards optimism in color, print and pattern trends. Aesthetically, there is a trend towards softness - in texture, motif forms and shapes. We are not seeing this as a dramatic or bold statement in dressing; rather it is a subdued celebration of something new to start again. Ethereal and maybe not so clear - we are seeing that in the dusty, but pretty pastels shades in color. For print and pattern motifs, florals are traditional and just pretty. The message for this macro trend is light, airy and still transitional.

AMALGAMATED
OVERVIEW:

AMALGAMATED
PATTERN CURATOR NOTES:
To amalgamate is to unite and to mix together to form one structure. In this macro trend, we are seeing that aesthetically we are uniting pre-pandemic, pandemic and post-pandemic ideas together by 2022. In prior seasons, hybrid ideas were just starting to form - in 2022, we are seeing that these hybrid ideas are not a passing trend. Here we are presenting color, print and pattern ideas with the intention of blending peoples’ existing style with what’s new to create its own form and shape. Different than “anything goes”. This is macro trend is purposefully taking what has already happened with what is to happen together to create a new form of its own.

BIOMIMICRY
OVERVIEW:

BIOMIMICRY
PATTERN CURATOR NOTES:
This is a concept that has been used in design for some time now - especially in architecture, fabric construction and in cars. AI (artificial intelligence) development has been about emulating human behaviors. Biomimicry isn’t a new concept per se. We have been looking to nature as inspiration for a few seasons now. Aesthetically, our surroundings have some contribution to how we dress or put rooms together. In 2022, we are seeing biomimicry occur on a surface and superficial level. Print and pattern ideas are taken from biological cell structures to create a linear abstract pattern. Color is derived by what is found in nature on a molecular level.
